About US..
Family & Field Labradors is a dream come true for our family, we thought
we would try our hand at breeding a litter in 1992, after owning labs for
over 20 years, always with the thought maybe this would be the hobby we
were looking for, well some 12 years later it’s more, much more; we have
labs in 8 provinces, two territories, and 5 states. We have met great
people from all parts of North America and consider them much more than
clients. We pride ourselves in staying in touch with our “pups”
and their owners, and we look forward to the stories and adventures. We
are family owned and operated, one that is growing, however we will never
lose our close attachment to our litters, that will never change, and is a
priority for us, we will never have more litters at one time than we can
handle, meaning personal care for the pups. We are proud of our 99%
survival rate of our pups from birth, which reflects the care they
receive.
Our
kennel operation is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, and carries
the registered name of “Wardensown” Kennels, which is the
home of “Family & Field Labrador Retrievers”. Our name
reflects the dual capabilities of the breed to be strong, keen, high
energy field dogs, at the same time be dedicated, loving, friendly family
“members” that soon become a major part of our lives, thus our motto
“ LABS FOR ALL REASONS”.
Labrador Retrievers continue to be the
#1 Registered Dog Breed in
North America, year after year.
Our Labs …….
We
breed American Field Bloodlines, all three colors, from the
best bloodlines in North America. Kevin spent endless amounts of
time researching bloodlines and then looking for suitable adults in these
bloodlines as the foundation for our breeding program. His selections
were successful, producing excellent dual purpose, high-quality lab
pups, and we are more than willing to provide a list of references
for our litters. Our pedigrees are second to none in North America, all
with NFC, NAFC, FC, AFC, MH, SH, JH credentials, more importantly though,
90% of the dogs in our pedigrees are carrying hip & eye certifications,
meaning you are purchasing pups that come from bloodlines with sound
health.
Health is our # 1 priority, all our adults are carrying certification
from the Orthopedic Foundation of America or the Ontario Veterinarian
College for hips & elbows, as well their eyes are checked and CERF’ed
every year. Our pups are guaranteed for hips & eyes, as well we
guarantee their health with regards anything that may result from genetics
of our bloodlines.
Our
adults all have excellent dispositions, are happy & healthy, love people,
they love to please, they are great with kids, and have all the tools
should you want your best friend to perform in the field, they will do it
all. It’s our policy, to insist prospective clients come and meet our
dogs, only then will you have a true feeling for what to expect from your
puppy, as well we want you to see our operation, it’s important to us, we
are proud of IT! We encourage our clients to plan for the arrival of
their new pup, which begins with a visit to the breeder.

Our Operation………
First
news is, we are GROWING; we have a two-year plan in place that will see
many changes take place at our operation. Stay tuned………………………..
Our
adults are housed in a new, fully climate controlled kennel. They have
access to a larger 200’x 200’ run area that is intermixed with spruce
trees, shortly (2004) we will have a pond where we will conduct training,
as well a place for the dogs to cool off on the hottest days in the
summer.
The
pups are whelped in a separate, heated building that we have named “The
Puppy Shack”; the building provides a quiet and warm atmosphere for the
dam and her new born. Once the litter is weaned, the building is
transformed into a larger area with access doors to the outside for the
5-8 week old pups to get some exercise & fresh air.
Mullen’s Small Animal Clinic, Walkerton, has been providing the veterinary
care for our dogs since day one, Drs. Linda Bolton and Sally Parks, and
their staff, ensure our dogs get the best medical attention possible. They
keep us up to date on new advancements in veterinary medicine, and have
provided the best emergency care to our adults and pups, and have helped
us to maintain such a high survival rate for our litters.
Every
year we increase the number of pups we ship to the US and other Provinces,
we enjoy meeting and doing business with clients in other parts of North
America. We ship out of Toronto Pearson’s International Airport; we use
Air Canada and Northwest Air. The pups have always arrived in perfect
shape from Los Angeles to New York, and Yellowknife to Newfoundland!! We
also appreciate the business that we have here in beautiful Ontario as
well!!!!
