Our Litters/Pups…
Our
litters are
planned for each year, the females are bred only once a year or year and
half, depending on their heat cycles, they are always allowed to have a
minimum of a one years rest between litters.
The pups tend to
arrive within 60 days of the breeding, plus or minus a day or two, the
dams are monitored and never left alone during this critical time. They
are moved to our whelping building around day 55, so that they can be
alone, in a quiet area, as well get use to the whelping box once again.
Once the dam’s
temperature drops to 99 degrees F, she will begin labour anytime up to 24
hrs; most times it’s within hours. Once the first pup is born, we remain
with the dam until all the pups are born, closely monitoring the females
labour to ensure there are no problems, and a smooth delivery. We average
10 pups per litter over the year, the larger litters can take up to 10
hours to complete!! “ Mom is beat” Immediately after birth the pups need
to be maintained at a very high temperature, this is where our whelping
building excels, allowing us to maintain the temperatures required to
ensure the pups survival in the first few days.
Over the next 7 weeks,
close monitoring continues of the pups and dam, initial socialization
begins by human contact and voice. The pups are weaned at 4 weeks, and are
enjoying dry food when they leave at 7 weeks. As most of our litters are
sold in advance of their birth by reservation, our clients are keen to see
the pups, thanks to the Internet we provide digital photos over the 7
weeks so that you can see the pups progress and grow!!! As well visits are
welcome at any time!
Our pups go to their
new owners with their first shots, they have had their dew claws removed,
dewormed, vet checked at least twice, they are micro chipped, CKC
Registered and have a two-year written guarantee for hips & eyes.
We are able to supply
pups to clients all over North America; we ship via Air Canada and
Northwest Air out of Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. The pups
travel well and have always reached their new owners in great shape, ready
to get on with life!!
